Hunting for something pretty

Furniture store Space Encounters launched its latest line last night. It was something I was looking forward to all week as designer Wilmer Lopez creates the loveliest pieces with a playful style. It was also a chance to meet up with friends and have a few drinks (before the onslaught of deadlines and out-of-town shoots next week).

Dubbed, “Hunting Season,”  the latest collection is more Nordic-inspired (clean lines and soft colors) compared to the dark and dramatic Asian-pop inspiration of the “Indochine Remixes” collection.  With the new collection, Space Encounters looked like a completely different store. But just as pretty.

I love this corner, particularly the desk and the big mirror on the side

Interesting prints, framed quotes (that reveal one of the owners' love for Star Trek, among other things) and a lovely green couch

Space Encounters

Last night, P and I went to Space Encounters, a furniture store in Ortigas Center by interior designer Wilmer Lopez and his partner Thor Balanon, for the launch of its latest collection of furniture. I first encountered Wilmer’s “Danish retro meets pop Asia” design sensibilities when I interviewed him and Thor to feature their home in Real Living magazine (Jan-Feb 2010). And when they opened their store early this year, I’ve been a fan ever since. Under the theme, “Indochine Remixes,” their latest collection has Mona Lisa wearing a cheongsam, floral fabrics and wallpapers, and lots of other whimsical-quirky pieces that mix Asian and European influences. If ever you find yourself in Ortigas Center and want a dose of pretty, artsy and Asian, stop by Space Encounters.

What a happy, pretty entrance
